Bon Chic Mauvais Genre - 6

La 48ème édition de Bon Chic Mauvais Genre a eu lieu il y a un peu plus de deux semaines.

Six mois plus tôt : BCMG 42

Pour les suivantes, j'ai fait le minimum syndical et tout terminé comme un porc.

Pour terminer là-dessus, une version qui a n'a pas été mise au propre parce qu'un des films avait été remplacé à la dernière minute (le magnifique Trust de Hal Hartley)

A l'heure actuelle, on ne sait pas si la soirée BCMG reprendra du service à la rentrée prochaine mais si ça n'est pas le cas, ça aura été une belle expérience tout de même.

PS : Ce mois-ci, un seul article, mais un gros article ! :)

I know how artificial and (kind of) cheap the process is, but I really like the way it looks. Here are the ones I did first, experimenting and trying to simulate that good old film grain

It also does a fairly good job hiding the crappiness of the drawings.

Movie Color Studies - Ran

Finally decided to study color a little bit more seriously. It is so frustrating not being able to see colors accurately... So, there we go. One study per day.

It's hard to find better source material than Kurosawa's masterpiece, Ran, which is easily one the best looking movies ever made.

I guess it probably wasn't a smart idea to start studying color with that movie in particuliar... Some of those are way off.

Justin Cort'

Another fella from the team I've worked with on "Violeta Parra, El Corazon de Chile" : Justin Cortes.

The story behind the pompous title on that fake CD cover was that we had to write a pitch for our graduation film. His story was titled "Grandeur & Décadence" (that could be roughly translated by "Greatness & Decadence"). It's as simple as that.

Oh, and although he doesn't play music at all, he's actually in love with ukuleles. (looks pretty big for a ukulele, though... Bah !)

My resolution was to post at least twice a month and it's been quite a chore so far... Almost didn't make it in time and I didn't even bother correcting the atrocious shape of his left hand (I really should learn how to draw hands). I need to be more disciplined !

Anyway, I've been busting my ass at work lately. Working, working and working and learning as I go. I'll keep working harder.

Bon Chic Mauvais Genre - 4

Depuis quelques temps, les affiches à base de "dessins" s'enchaînent. (En fait, je me rends compte que seules les deux premières de cette saison ont été des montages) Les précédents essais ont été assez désastreux - j'y reviendrai dans un prochain article - et celle là... Un peu moins. Ceci dit, j'ai toujours ces fameux problèmes de composition, de couleurs, d'équilibre, etc. mais bon.

L'affiche mise en page peut se trouver sur la page facebook de l'événement, ici ou sur le site MatiereFocale.com qui organise la soirée, en partenariat avec Le Cinéma Majestic de Lille, le magazine cinock'n'roll, Metaluna, et exceptionnellement, avec le fanzine Medusa, qui fête ses 25 ans !
